Hi from Seattle :) [11 Sep 2005|11:38am]

Well I suppose it’s time for me to introduce myself. original_sue down there *waving at Sue* has been holding down the fort for women’s basketball very well but I figured it was time for someone else to play the backcourt for her. Unlike her, I *am* THAT Sue. I don’t really know what to write in here, but it appears that all the introductory posts have been filled with bio information so that’s where I’ll start.

I’m originally from Syosset, New York and went to Christ the King High School. I’ve won a lot of medals, but although they’re shiny (which seems to be a big thing around here ;-) ), they don’t really mean a whole lot to me. Except the gold medal I got in 2004 with the women’s Olympic team...that one's special enough to remain in my sock drawer for a long, long time.

I’m going to be 25 in October and I wear number 10 for that reason. I play for the Seattle Storm and was the #1 Draft Pick in ’02.

Let’s see..what else?

I love basketball, but it’s not my reason for living. French Fries and the Love of my Life would be my reasons for living. But not in that order, mind you.

I got a few really shiny trophies and awards from my college years, but they’re not with me. Geno kept them all..the bastard. :) Love you, Coach.

Nah, I don’t care about the trophies and the medals. My most prized possessions are my family, my lover, and my chocolate chip cookie recipe. Again..not in that order.

If you wanna know anything, let me know. And it’s great to be here. Oh..and if I weren’t playing basketball, I’d TOTALLY be playing soccer! Which means it’s a real honor to be in a list of some of the best women’s soccer players! I’m really stoked about that!

Yes, it is true. I have signed with the Chicago Blackhawks. You can all stop worrying about me now.

I have to pack my house and find a vet in Chicago. Puck is very excited, but I think that might be because I am making a tuna sandwich for lunch.

English.... General.

It sounds like there could be an annoucnement with week regarding the work stoppage that has paralysed tha ctivities of the National hockey League.
Our contacts with the Players association didn't want to comment but by the tone of the answers, we are led to believe that an announcement could be made by Thursday
Remember that the two sides, the NHL and the NHLPA met today (Monday) in New York

Well, I guess I should just jump on in here....Hi. I'm Rick and it looks like I'm the new guy around here. A lot of faces I know (or at least have seen them from time to time) and others I don't. But I'm hoping to change that. Turning over a new leaf and all that stuff.

Feel free to pop by and say hi if you like. I've got an AIM name - it's nasherblue and sadly, as there isn't hockey right now...I'm around a lot.

Question to the hockey players [24 May 2005|01:14pm]

[ mood | curious ]

Now that it's approaching summer, and approaching a time when hockey wouldn't be in season anyway, do you feel less out of place? When you know you wouldn't be playing even if the season hadn't been canceled, is it somewhat more reassuring?

(And on an unrelated note, why does the 'curious' expression look so sad?)

I guess I shouldn't put this off any longer than I have. [19 May 2005|12:06pm]

[ mood | good ]

I'm Eric, Bob's kid. I'll probably add a lot of you so here's to hoping you'll add me back. I played for Michigan the last 4 years, a pick of the Flames (hey Jarome) and most people don't know I'm Jewish. I'm in Vegas right now for an annual trip the departing seniors go to so things are a little hectic at the moment.

So while I get AIM up and running and settle into this, anyone got any questions in the meantime?

... Not so good with the introduction thing.

Hockey [11 May 2005|08:36pm]

[ mood | curious ]

I've had this conversation many times, so I figure I should just consolidate it into one post, get everyone's opinions. Most of you are hockey boys, so...I'd like to hear your opinions.

Why isn't hockey popular?

Way I understand it is, hockey's a leading sport in Canada and Europe. So why's America so different? (And no America-uncultured jokes, y'hear?) I mean, I grew up in Ohio, never even heard about hockey til the Columbus Blue Jackets moved into the state (and Columbus is like, 5 hours away, so I really didn't care.) It certaintly ain't that Ohio isn't cold enough, cause trust me it is. Just never heard anything. Never got interested.

Yahoo news has an interesting article here that discusses too. That, you know, there's somethin' whacky going on when Battle of the Gridiron Stars is getting double the ratings that your sport is. And, much as I find the show amusing, it's cause my teammates and co-workers are on it, I can't much see the appeal of NFL boys playin' tug-of-war.

So, yeah. Lemme know, I'm genuinely curious.

I was talking to Ben last night and it occured to me that no one's really met in person. And I was also thinking that I haven't been fishing in a really long time. I found this guy that runs a charter out of Hudson (Florida) and he's got a really great boat. So who wants to come hang out for a weekend and nab some grouper?

I was thinking the end of the month. I think you Americans have a holiday on the 30th (is it then or the week before?), but that's Monday. You can come over on Wednesday or Thursday and we'll fish Friday and stuff ourselves with fish all weekend, and I'll kick everyone out on Sunday.

I have three empty bedrooms in my house if anyone wants to stay here. I'm by myself in Tampa, so there's no kids running around. There's a screened-in, heated pool and we have a fence around the backyard. The neighbors are friendly and won't get in the way (and no, before you ask, there's no marijuana involved - that's just Vermont, ha ha).

So who's in? If you can see this, you're invited.

Hey there everyone from Pittsburgh! Mark Recchi here, former Flyer and Hab, and now back to where it all began. *smiles* I was supposed to go play in Finland with my friend Saku, but it just never worked out, so I'm just a guy looking for someone to talk to and hang out with.

I'll be around online too...you can find me at AIM as pensrex8. I'm sort of shy at first, but once I get to know ya, I'm loads of fun. Okay....um...I'm gonna go now. Bye!

I guess I should say hello... [07 Apr 2005|06:37pm]

Jarome here, captain of the Calgary Flames -- well, when we're playing, that is. I think a couple of you might know me. Maybe. ;-) I'm pretty much hanging out at home right now, spending time with my daughter, rather than playing for Team Canada... strange, to be turning down playing hockey, but there you go.

I'm really bad about talking about myself in this kind of capacity, so I won't take up too much of your time with incoherent babbling, since that's probably what it would break down to at the moment, sadly. Anyway. Feel free to message me on AIM -- I'm stiggysfire -- I'm always up for chatting. That's all for now. Hope to talk to people soon. :)

Hey. Uh, I'm not, um, good at this kind of thing, but Joe says I should say something and meet people, so, uh, I'm, like, Hal, and I play hockey for the Boston Bruins, and Team USA. This past season I was in Finland (go LUKKO! Yeah!) and, um, am looking forward to getting back on home ice, as it were. I already know a bunch of you guys, but, yeah, I do what Joe says. So, yeah.

Nice to meet you.

Hey everyone! What's up!?

I'm Eric Gagne, and I pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Actually, if you want to get technical, I close for them and if you want to get even more technical, I'm not even playing at all right now becaise I'm on the DL for an elbow injury but whose paying attention to this post right now anyway?

I grew up in Montréal and love baseball and grew up an Expos fan, but, hey, we all know what happened there. Also, I am a huge hockey, well, Habs fan and still watch games when there is no lockout. Get your asses back to work, already!

If you want to talk me on AIM, I am gagnewins. Catchy, eh? I guess that sums it up. Thanks for having me. Pop quiz later...

Hey, what's up? I'm Razor. I play goalie for Boston normally, though this season I played in Finland. I'm home now, thank god. S'not that I don't like Finland or anything... but, good to be home, where people speak English and... yeah.

So, hit me up on AIM. I'm a big computer nerd and all so I'm, like, always on. Can't wait to hear from ya'll. Thanks.

And now for something completely different. [01 Apr 2005|04:19pm]

Getting a couple of common mistakes out of the way first:

I am not the Original Sin, despite my username's similarity. I have a lot more fun than that ;)

I am not that Sue. I came along well before her. I can't fix you up with Diana Taurasi or Swin Cash. Huskies and Scarlet Knights don't get along well enough for that.

My name is Sue, as might be glaringly obvious by now. I'm sitting here laughing at the fact that the last of the "big 4" sports (at least according to Americans) is represented by a retired female player. A lady does not admit her age, but I'm not much of a lady: I'm 39. I originally hail from Long Island, but I got out of there as fast as I could. I live in New Jersey now. It's not as bad as the jokes say.

I used to play for the New York Liberty of the WNBA. Before that came along, I played in Japan, Hungary, Israel, Italy, and Spain. I decided that I didn't feel like sitting on the end of the bench and got the hell out of Dodge so I could start conspiring to take over the Garden retired gracefully in 2002. These days, I work for my alma mater, Rutgers, as Coordinator of Basketball Operations, and after close to a year on the job, I'm still not quite sure what I'm supposed to be doing.

I grew up a Mets and Knicks fan. I didn't really follow hockey much- by the time the Islanders were in full dynasty mode, I was shooting hoops in the schoolyard. As for football, I don't see the appeal in men in tights hitting each other repeatedly. Maybe I would if I liked men in tights.

I have two cats and one partner. I'll try to keep the trite domestic details to a minimum. I think that's it for now.

Hey everyone! My name is Brad and I play hockey! Well, when i'm not hurt and there IS hockey, I play hockey. Vinny got one of these so I figured I had to too. AND OH MY GOD, JOE SAKIC TOTALLY HAS ONE TOO! Uh...sorry. Anyways, I like hanging out with my best friend and going fishing for lobsters and playing video games and of course playing hockey when I can. If you get really bored you can send me a message on aim or whatever it is, my name is bradisthebest19. Isn't that the most awesome name ever?!

Intro? [31 Mar 2005|10:06am]

[ mood | chipper ]

Hey, I'm Joe. I normally play for the Boston Bruins in the NHL. This was supposed to be our year, but, you know, I'm not going to complain too loudly.

Anyway. Just thought I'd say hello. You can IM me if you want, or what have you. Always willing to talk nonstop about dumb things. Heh.

Bonjour, I am Vincent Lecavalier and obviously I am new here.

For those who do not know me or do not follow hockey, I play for the Tampa Bay Lightning. I just returned from Russia where I was playing for Ak Bars Kazan. It is refreshing to be back in a place where they speak the languages I know and I do not have to use ketchup for spaghetti sauce.

I do not have an AIM name yet, but when I do I will post it here. I look forward to meeting all of you very soon.
